EVS is an advanced multiplatform version control ecosystem. Supporting many advanced features it remains compatible with industry standard protocols including CVS, CVSNT, SVN and WebDAV.

EVS is Open Source, Free software licensed under various opensource licenses.

  • Change management not just version management - every version has one or more (optional) user defined change numbers
  • Authentication via all standard CVS protocols, plus SSL encrypted tunnels, SSPI and Active Directory
  • Cross platform: Runs in Windows and many *nix environments
  • Windows version is fully integrated with Active Directory.
  • No more tagging to merge (auto merge root find: MergePoint)!
  • Comprehensive auditing of user activity
  • Supports many databases including sqlite, postgres, SQL Server and Oracle
  • Real atomic commit (pull the plug on the server during a commit and it automatically rolls back to the uncommitted state)
  • Real rename (not just delete & copy [svn], or add & delete [cvs])
  • Commit identifiers and unique version number for each commit
  • True multi-site: branches have a location (eg: Sydney, Manchester, New York)
  • Access Control Lists on files, directories, branches etc
  • Directories are versioned

We recommend people using CVSNT server or client on Windows XP SP2 or later to migrate to EVS. New feature releases of CVSNT server and client 2.x will continue to be developed by March Hare Software.
